The refugee crisis in countries located within the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region continues to be one of the most critical humanitarian challenges of the present day. According to the UNHCR, the number of displaced refugees accounts to almost 2.4 million with several stateless, internally displaced and desperately seeking asylum.
These individuals face limited access to education, gainful employment and even social services that hinders the ability to rebuild their lives and find peace. Thus, the need for integration is urgent; to help refugees not only survive but also live a life with dignity and fundamental rights within new environments. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) stresses on how for immigration to play a positive role, it is crucial that families are well-included into the host country’s economics and society at large. However, this integration is complex and calls for a holistic approach.
Recognizing the same, Project Beyond Borders was founded in March 2024 to address these challenges. By drawing on the lived experiences of refugees and personal insights from experts, the initiative aims to create a comprehensive intervention plan that empowers individuals and improves their quality of life.
